Orthotics

Custom orthotics are prescription devices made to change how your foot loads and how force travels up through the lower limb. Because the foot is the base of that chain, how it functions can influence the ankle, knee, hip and lower back, not just the foot itself.

That means orthotics are not only for foot and heel pain. Where assessment shows foot function is contributing to load higher up, orthotics can form part of the plan for related ankle, knee, hip and lower back pain. They work best alongside footwear advice and a loading or strengthening program, and are prescribed from your assessment rather than issued as a one-size solution.

Our orthotics are made through high quality suppliers and are individually prescribed for your foot type, footwear and activity.

When we use it

We prescribe orthotics off the back of a biomechanical assessment, and only when they earn their place in the plan.

Questions

Common questions

How are custom orthotics different from shop insoles?

Custom orthotics are prescribed to suit your feet and your assessment, rather than being a generic insole. The podiatrist will explain what suits your situation.

Do I always need orthotics for a foot problem?

No. They are one option among several, recommended only where the assessment supports it.

How long until they are ready?

Timeframes depend on the prescription and are discussed at your appointment. Fitting and adjustments happen at follow up visits.
