Condition
Running-related hip pain
Hip and gluteal pain is common in runners and is often linked to how you load through the whole leg rather than a problem isolated to the hip. Foot function, running mechanics and training load all affect the forces the hip has to control.
Runners commonly notice pain on the outside of the hip, or deep in the buttock, that builds with mileage or comes on when running on cambered surfaces. Like knee pain, this is frequently load and biomechanics driven.
We assess the lower limb as a whole. By looking at your gait, foot function and loading, we identify contributors that are increasing demand on the hip and address them through load management, targeted strengthening, footwear and, where indicated, custom orthotics. Where the hip needs assessment or treatment beyond our scope, we will let you know and work in with your GP or other practitioners.
