Condition
Running-related knee pain
Knee pain is one of the most common problems runners deal with, and it often has little to do with the knee itself. How you load through the foot and ankle, your running mechanics, and how much and how quickly you have increased training all influence the forces going through the knee.
Common running-related presentations include pain around or behind the kneecap that builds during or after a run, and pain on the outside of the knee that comes on at a predictable distance. These are frequently load and biomechanics driven rather than the sign of a single injury.
Our role is to assess the lower limb as a chain. We look at your gait, foot function and how you load, identify factors adding stress to the knee, and address them through footwear, load management, targeted strengthening and, where indicated, custom orthotics. Where a knee problem needs input beyond biomechanics, we will tell you and coordinate with your GP or other practitioners.
