Sports Foot & Ankle Injuries
We see a wide range of sports-related foot and ankle injuries, from weekend runners and social players through to committed club and junior athletes. The aim is simple – diagnose the problem, settle pain and help you return to sport safely.
Common sports injuries we treat
Typical problems include:
- Ankle sprains and ongoing ankle pain
- Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendon pain
- Shin splints and other running-related shin pain
- Ball of foot pain from forefoot overload
- Flat feet and overpronation contributing to pain further up the leg
- General sports-related foot and ankle injuries
These injuries are common in running, football, netball, basketball, tennis and other change-of-direction sports.
Our approach to sports injury management
Managing sports injuries is more than simply “resting”. We look at:
- How the injury started and what training or match loads were like at the time
- Foot, ankle and leg mechanics, including strength and control
- Footwear, playing surfaces and any recent changes
- Sport-specific demands, such as jumping, sprinting and rapid changes of direction
From there, we outline a staged plan that balances symptom relief with gradual return to sport.
Treatment options for sports foot & ankle injuries
Depending on the diagnosis and stage of injury, treatment may involve:
- Load management and adjustment of training or match schedules
- Strengthening and conditioning programs targeted to the injured area
- Footwear advice and, where needed, orthotics to improve loading
- Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT) for stubborn heel and tendon problems
- Class IV laser therapy for selected soft tissue and nerve-related pain
- Dry needling and other soft tissue techniques
- Injection therapies where appropriate
- Progressive return-to-sport planning with clear criteria
When other health professionals need to be involved, we work with your GP, physiotherapist or specialist so management is coordinated.
Who we see
We see sports injuries in teenagers, adults and older athletes who want to stay active. Some are playing organised sport; others are returning to exercise after a break or increasing training too quickly.
